"Icelandic creativity doesn't begin and end with Björk. Take Steinunn Sigurðar, the former La Perla design director who trained at Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Gucci during the Tom Ford years. Sigurðar is bringing some minimal Scandinavian cool to steamy New York later this month, when her black, sculptural clothes—picture a taffeta mini with volume-enhancing crinolines or a cape with delicate puckered details—hit Takashimaya prior to her fashion week presentation. "Coming to New York is always like returning home," she says. For spring, Sigurðar, who lives on the ocean, is lightening up a bit with a predominantly gray collection that was inspired by her favorite view: the sky and sea melting together on the horizon.
